Join us for a vibrant day full of art, science, and fun, specially designed to inspire and inform visitors of all ages about the fascinating world of insects. At this art and information market, everything revolves around one key question: How can we create more appreciation and understanding for these wonderful and indispensable creatures?
There will be plenty to see and do! Artists will be selling insect-inspired artwork, striking insect-themed street performers will bring the atmosphere to life, and delicious food trucks will satisfy your appetite. Visitors can enjoy a tasty insect tasting, meet insect-related organisations for information and inspiration, and attend a read-aloud activity from insect-themed children’s books for the youngest guests. This market is for everyone who cares about insects.
In addition, on the same day, we will organise guided tours in the Radix building: offering a behind-the-scenes look at how current Entomology staff shape their research and teaching. This combines well with a visit to the exhibition at Museum the Casteelse Poort at another moment before or after the event.

Insect-inspired art
Stroll past numerous stalls where local artists showcase their creations: paintings, sculptures, photography, and handmade jewellery, all inspired by the beauty and diversity of insects. Be surprised by unexpected materials — from clay and fabric to shimmering glass — bringing the unique shapes and colours of bees, beetles, butterflies, and spiders to life.
Information stands & scientific insights
Our entomologists will be on hand to answer all your questions. Pick up flyers, posters, and explore interactive displays about insect ecology, evolution, and their importance to our ecosystem. Special presentations will offer insight into ongoing research at our Laboratory of Entomology — from molecular techniques to field studies — and how this knowledge contributes to biodiversity conservation.
Creative crafts for children
For young explorers, there will be a dedicated craft corner. With enthusiastic guidance, children can create their own insect-inspired artwork. There is something fun for every age.
Storytime & street theatre
Be carried away by stories of heroic bees, clever ants, and magical butterflies. Professional storytellers will read from children’s books. Stand face-to-face with giant, life-size insects!
Food trucks & atmosphere
In between activities, enjoy a varied selection of food trucks: including special insect-based snacks.
